By BBN Staff: Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte recently indicated that legislation was put in place for persons sharing fake news that would create panic in the citizenry during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first person to be charged under those new regulations to be made an example of is Erika Yanira Vargas, 25.

On Monday she posted to Facebook that, “My eyes are on tears plss god protect mi and my family next case in San Jose a hole family news will confirm tomorrow.”

As a result, other social media users started posting and sharing her message on their social media accounts creating alarm in San Jose Village, Orange Walk District.

As a result, Vargas was charged for the offense of “spreading false news.”

Other members of the public are reminded that this offense may result in a fine and or prison sentence.
