Caribbean Chronicle understands that the suspect was nabbed just after midnight on Sunday morning.
According to the Antigua police, “Calvin ‘Burger’ James, the suspect who was wanted by the Police in connection with an alleged double homicide in 2018 was captured. Based on information received, an operation was mounted by the Police in the Hermitage Bay area and the suspect was captured about 12:35 a.m. this morning (13.1.19). He had in his possession one firearm and one knife.
James was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Tahisha Thomas, and Sanchezca Charles and the serious attempted murder of Lawrence James, who was shot in the face during the October 5, 2018 ordeal.
Recently, the wanted man’s sister – Ineta Liburd – made a public appeal for his surrender. Liburd was herself in protective custody shortly after the shooting as lawmen sought to arrest of her brother.
The murders reportedly was the result of family issues over property that began in 2015 where the suspect was arrested and charged for attacking his sister with a taser gun and assaulting his niece with a cutlas. The same nice, Tahisha Thomas did not survive the second attack.
“…My life is gone, my life is ruined. Who can bring it back? Every day I pray to God, I ask him, listen, just give me justice, make them find this man so my dead daughter and my son’s girlfriend and my son can get justice,” the Liburd said in an Antigua Observer interview last week.
The Commissioner of Police has thanked the general public for their support and patience during the past months. He has also extended thanks to the officers “who exhibited great courage, perseverance and commitment during the operation.”
The investigation is ongoing.
